Defining a BIM-Enabled Learning Environment—An Adaptive Structuration Theory Perspective

Digitalization of the AEC-FM industry has resulted in reassessment knowledge, knowledge management, teaching and learning, workflows networks, roles, relevance. Consequently, new approaches to learning meet demands jobs abilities, channels communication, a awareness are required. Building Information Modelling (BIM) offers opportunities address some current challenges through BIM-enabled education training. This research defines requisite characteristics Learning Environment (BLE)—a web-based platform that facilitates training—in order develop prototype version BLE. Using mixed-methods design an Adaptive Structuration Theory (AST) perspective for interpreting findings, 33 features 5 distinct intentions behind those were identified. These findings valuable taking forward development BLE as they suggest requires integration functions from three existing types information technology application (virtual environments, virtual collaboration platforms, BIM applications). study will inform enhanced training, it also provides starting point researchers apply AST evaluate use different educational training contexts.
